Combining guitar, harmonica, double bass, cajon drum, and vocals, Owen Steel and his band 'et al' bring to the table songs about moose, volkswagen vans, and home. Growing up, Owen spent much of his time on Prince Edward Island, at one point taking guitar lessons from a local wood carver in exchange for eggs and pork chops. The lessons did not last long, but fortunatly the love of music did and Owen began writing terrible, terrible songs that, over time, seemed to become less and less terrible. In his mid teens, Owen made a move to New Brunswick and began gigging on a fairly regular basis, playing anything from coffee houses to house concerts, bars and busking to festival stages, sporadically releasing home made albums over the years. From the beginning stages up until now, the work is beginning to pay off, and Owen has successfully taken his show on the road around Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes, shared the stage with an incredible range of musicians including Elliott Brood, Old Man Leudecke, and Catherine Maclellan, as well as showcased at such festivals as Fredericton's Harvest Jazz and Blues Fest, St. John's Salty Jam, and Montreal's Infringement Festival. With the addition of Mike 'mumble' Humble (Gordon Gets Lost) on percussion, and Scott Culligan (Vetch, Dub Antenna) on stand up bass, Owen's songs are taking on a whole new life, and the trio recently recorded their first, professional full length album this summer, released early in 2010.
