Oteya is a female Afro-pop artist from Namibia. She started as a member of Gal Level before deciding to go solo. Her music is a fusion of Afro-pop and house, while her lyrics are typically in Oshiwambo. As part of Gal-Level, she won both Sanlam-NBC Music Awards and Namibian Music Awards. In April 2014, she released her debut single, ‘Ethimbo’ (meaning “it’s my time”) to mark the beginning of her solo career. The video for the track saw her become the first Namibian artist to be nominated at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) in the Video Battles category in 2014. In 2015 Oteya won two awards at the NAMAS: Best Female Artist and Best Afro-Pop. She is currently signed to Ogopa Butterfly.
