Orquesta Revé is Cuban orchestra, originally formed in 1956 by Elio Revé. Elio Revé Matos (Guantánamo, 23 June 1930 - 24 July 1997) was a Cuban percussionist (timbalero), bandleader and composer, nicknamed "father of the changüí". After his death, his son, Elito Revé, took over the direction of the Orquestra Revé. Changüí is a style of Cuban music which originated in the early 19th century in the eastern region of Guantánamo Province, specifically Baracoa. Changüí is considered a predecessor of son montuno (the ancestor of modern salsa), which has enjoyed tremendous popularity in Cuba throughout the 20th century.
