In the 1960s and 1970s, Orchestra Sofia was one of the leading orchestras for modern music and made significant contributions to the development of the pop, jazz, swing genres, featuring many iconic soloists - Margret Nikolova, Kiril Semov, Pasha Hristova, Lili Ivanova, Maria Neykova, Katya Filipova, Hristo Kidikov, Yordanka Hristova, and others.
