From Myspace: "Ophelia Rising began in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts after founding member, Lexa “Ophelia” Vonn was arrested in an anti-censorship protest defending the art of Geffen recording artists, White Zombie. Her case was fought by the ACLU in a court of law and ended in a dismissal that sent Lexa packing to Los Angeles to pursue a career in rock n’ roll. For the next two years Lexa found herself living on the streets with the homeless punk rock jet set, hitchhiking and taking odd jobs to support herself. She go-go danced for The Mentors, worked as a personal assistant to rapper, KRS-1 and toured as a “professional groupie” with bands across the country before she settled in Hollywood for good. While hanging out with the rich and infamous, Lexa devised a plan to start her own band for which she began recruiting members upon her return to Hollywood. The band draws on influences from the worlds of rock, punk, metal, and goth. “Our sound is the Go-go’s meets Marilyn Manson and our imagery is Kenneth Anger meets Russ Meyer,” says Vonn. “We like to play on extremes. It’s the ridiculously shallow meets the ridiculously deep.” Their debut EP, entitled Step 1: Acknowledge You Are Part of The System, was produced by punk legend, Geza X and contains three original tracks as well as an industrial version of the 1960’s Lesley Gore hit, “You Don’t Own Me”.
