Opal Maven formed in late 2007, after John Kellerman and Curt Reimer had begun working on new music in the wake of their former bands. They were searching for a more rock and roll style, and began writing songs that exemplified their classic rock influences. Not long after, bassist Nathan Blair was brought in to round out the rhythm section, and now as a trio, they continued to write new music and perfect a batch of classic rock covers. To finish off the band, they needed a second guitarist, and so a friend of the band, Jed Soroka, was asked to join. With a full sound, they continued to work on their original material, as well as a catalogue of covers spanning decades of rock and roll. Gaining confidence and momentum within the group, they booked their debut show at Creekside Theatre in Winfield for June, 2008. Inviting other local bands to play, they rocked a strong set for the audience, gaining respect from the crowd and bands alike. Opal Maven knew that this was just the beginning.
