The Ominous Seapods were a nineties jam band spawning from Plattsburgh, New York and eventually settling in Albany, New York. At the height of their popularity, their line up included Max Verna (guitar, vocals), Dana Monteith (guitar, vocals), Tom Pirozzi (bass guitar, vocals), Brian Mangini (keyboards) and Ted Marotta (drums). Todd Pasternak replaced Max Verna after he left the band in 1998. The band released its debut CD, Econobrain (1994) to minimal success and followed up with Guide to Road Side Ecology (1995), their first studio disc. Later releases included Matinee Idols (1998) and Superman Curse (2000). Despite the plethora of jam bands, The Ominous Seapods were able to expand beyond Upstate New York, making a name for themselves before breaking up in 2002.
