“An omega male could be viewed as the opposite of an alpha male,” says David Best, singer with this new duo. “An omega male would probably not be a pilot or a CEO of a pharmaceutical company. He'd probably be more likely to be eating crisps. I like to think he watches the world in a detached fashion, as if he's watching television, and that no outside elements can influence his existence…” While the above description of an omega male hardly describes a superman, Omega Male could conceivably be described as a supergroup, a Transatlantic duo featuring David Best of Brighton minimalist kraut-funk outfit Fujiya & Myagi and Sammy Rubin of Brooklyn’s digital rock band Project Jenny, Project Jan. The combination is an inspired one – laptop sex music played by two white dudes. Echoes of each act in the Omega Male sound has introduced an element of creative tension: “There's definitely a running battle between digital and analogue throughout the record, which is interesting,” says David. “There's a little passive aggressiveness in a few of the songs too. I don't know why. Maybe I was feeling a little passive aggressive. That would explain it.” The lyrics certainly pack a punch: The chain gang-like Blue Narcissus is about the people who voted Liberal Democrat in the last election to keep the Tories out, only to see them form a government together. Elsewhere, Wax & Glue is about making a voodoo doll of someone you dislike then sticking pins in it, and You Bore Me To Tears speaks for
