Artist
Oleg Fesov, born in 1963 in Badakhshan, Tadjikistan, describes his music as “an attempt to present the musical ideas of Badakhshan and the Pamir mountains to the rest of the world”. It is the intense and emotionally charged musical expression of Fesov’s voice, combined with oriental string and percussion instruments, which represents traditional music from his home country. In early 1990s in the middle of ethnic war, he left Tadjikistan and lived in emigration in Moscow, Russia then Almaty, Kasakhstan and later left to Germany, but always felt strongly connected to his home country and his ancestors from the Pamir mountains. His people are Badakhshani, an ethnic group of 350,000 who are divided by the Afghan-Tadjik border. After his performance at the Voice of Asia festival in 1992, he was invited to the Crossing Cultures World Music project.
