The North America Jazz Alliance was conceived by Montreal producer Peter Maxymych. The idea behind “The Montreal Session” was to recreate the club sound of Jazz bands from the 60s and 70s as well the dominant sound of world renowned accordionist Art Van Damme. To achieve this, Maxymych pieced together five world class Jazz musicians to build on their inspiration and “The Montreal Session” was recorded in the summer of 2011 at studio 270 in Montreal, Quebec. The quintet consists of Los Angeles native Kenny Kotwitz (accordion), Steve Hobbs (vibraphone) of North Carolina, and Montrealers: Greg Clayton (guitar), Dave Laing (drums), Alec Walkington (bass) and John Labelle (vocals). The North American Jazz Alliance delivers a classy, polished, cool and sexy sound in a clear and crisp fashion. “The Montreal Session” was released by Challenge Records on January 8th, 2013 and instantly rose to number 9 on USA Jazz Week. It is a timeless CD and John Labelle, on vocals, is as smooth as any male vocalist; an undiscovered gem who one reviewer noted ‘puts Sinatra to shame’. The group quickly sold out their first run but a second run is now available on Itunes and CD Universe.
