Aberdeen-born performer of traditional Scottish folk song, who has combined recording with a career as a weaver. Emigrated to the US in 1966, where he founded and ran a weaving school in Vermont until finally retiring in 1995. Was presented with a National Heritage Fellowship of the National Endowment for the Arts by President Bush in 2003.
