Norman Gimbel (16 November 1927) is an American lyricist of popular songs, television and movie themes whose writing career includes such titles as "Sway", "Canadian Sunset", "Summer Samba", "The Girl from Ipanema", "Meditation" and "I Will Wait for You", along with an Oscar for "It Goes Like It Goes" - from the film Norma Rae. During 1984 he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He also co-wrote with Charles Fox the Grammy Award winning "Killing Me Softly With His Song" (1974) as performed by Roberta Flack. Continuing his working relationship with Charles Fox, Gimbel wrote lyrics for the theme songs of many TV series, including Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, Angie, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, Wonder Woman, the Emmy-winning theme for The Paper Chase, and the song score for Pufnstuf, the 1970 film version of the 1969–71 Saturday-morning cult children's series H.R.
