No Thanx is a pop-rock / emo band hailing from Szombathely, Hungary. They emerged from nowhere in 2006, parallel with the spreading popularity of the so-called emo genre (mainly Tokio Hotel) in Eastern Europe. Rumor had that major labels were searching the country for any Hungarian emo bands for the inner music market, but couldn't find any. No Thanx back then was pretty much the smallest and most uncool band you could ever imagine, so EMI propably had an easy time making them their puppet slave and turn them into your basic Balcan pop-rock band, wearing make-up and writing depressive lyrics for 'emo' credibility. Hype were spinning high even before any material could be heard from the band and after releasing the well-selling Egy másik nemzedék (A different generation) LP the future looked bright for No Thanx. The cause of their downfall was that a new player called Anti-Fitness Club was aiming for the "Major Hungarian 'Emo' Band" title, in the colours of a rival major label. AFC was an experienced but still young punk outfit, living in Budapest. They were a band that could write proper music and can put on the right t-shirt without dozens of stylists. Second No Thanx LP, Gépregény came out in the summer of 2008. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
