Nix Noltes was formed by Reykjavík musicians, including members of Múm, based on their passion for Bulgarian and Balkan folk music. The big band, founded in the fall of 2004, set out to play folk music from Bulgaria and the Balkan regions in their own sonically distorted versions. After an intense concert period at every venue and in every hellhole in Reykjavik and also some very hip gigs in New York that winter, the band recorded the album Orkideur Hawai in an old farmhouse in Borgarfjordur. Soon after that they supported Animal Collective on a tour around Europe where they got incredible reaction from the crowds. They have just returned from another tour around the US, again with the Animal Collective. Orkideur Hawaí has just been released in the US and will be released in Japan very soon.
