about

Nina Vladimirovna Makarova (Russian: Нина Владимировна Макарова; 12 August [O.S. 30 July] 1908 in Jurino – 15 January 1976 in Moscow) was the wife of composer Aram Khachaturian and a composer in her own right who had great interest in Russian and Mari folksongs. She co-composed several pieces with her husband, including the Music to M. Aliger's Play "A Tale of Truth" (1947) and Music to Yu. Chepurin's Play "Spring Stream" (1953). She studied under Nikolai Myaskovsky, like her husband. She conducted her Symphony in Moscow on 12 June 1947. She had a son, Karen, who is currently known as an art critic. Her nickname was "Gayane" (Гаянэ) User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
