This mysterious and shady figure has for a long time been one of the most influential assets of the underground scene in Odense, Denmark. Despite never having released anything himself countless of established and trendsetting musicians cite him as their prime inspiration and teacher. The man behind the doomtronica rave project Double Helix Nebula has called Nikolaj Bruus the "Mr. Miyagi of music", and Mini Brandon, the succesful avantgarde rock musician and one of the prime innovators of new age, joins in with the following statement: "This man is one of the people, who's always just left, when you arrive. He's impossible to get hold of, but you're sure he's been there, cos people are... changed..." Rumour has it that a lo-fi recording dedicated to his just-as-mysterious girlfriend, who supposedly is living in the great forests of central Funen, is circulating. Other, more questionable sources have through the years talked about an obscure post rock outfit called Sun Power, a techno duo with associations to Batman and Robin riding dolphins in moonlight, a red-neck instrumental folk duo called Zappa Tappa, a plastic synthesia concept electro band making music about broken scooters (?) and other stuff. It's hard to separate the man from the myth. Whether he's real or just some fictionary Messiah of his generation is hard to tell, but the phenomenon lives on.
