The Reverend Benjamin Samedi formed Nightmare Sonata in 2004 out of the broken remnants of Greensboro, NC’s Gothic-Industrial and Punk rock scenes. Drawing on the musical influences of both, Nightmare Sonata creates a heavy and groove-oriented sonic brew that combines the sonic expanse of Goth and the raw brutality of metal and Punk. Dark imagery fused with fast percussional foundations are woven into an audio and visual tapestry and Samedi (who is alwasy seen dressed as a bokor¸ from Haitian lore)—joined by drummer Vega, bassist Lady Von Creepyshit, and the guitarist known as Pork—are positioned to blow Nightmare Sonata’s recipe of Zombie Dust into the face of the music industry. The band partners with a duo of dark theatre/fetish performers dubbed “The Zombie Pit.” Seeking to loosely illustrate the lyrical content of Nightmare Sonata's songs through horrific BDSM & fetish-based theatrics for select live shows, Nightmare Sonata has become known in the region for an intense and often graphic stage presence coupled with a dark and heavy sound.
