After classical studies at the Namur conservatory (where he studied under Nathalie Loriers and Pierre Van Dormael), Kummert entered the jazz section of the Brussels conservatory. His teachers there included Jeroen Van Herzeele, Ron Van Rossum, Kris Defoort and Diederik Wissels. He also studied with Erwin Vann and Fabrizio Cassol. In 1998 he was nominated best soloist at the Hoeilaart international jazz contest (with the Alexi Tuomarila Quartet). Since starting his career, he has already played in concert and in studio with Pierre Van Dormael, Otti & Bo Van Der Werf, Kris Joris, Nicolas Thys and Stéphane Galland.
