Nicola Cosimi (Loreto, 1667 - 1717) was an Italian composer and violinist. Nicola Cosimi began his musical studies with Arcangelo Corelli and from 1683 was an academic at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome . Between 1700 and 1705 he was in London , for a musical journey with his cellist friend Nicola Francesco Haym , to whom his life is closely linked. This trip was organized by Wriothesley Russell, 2nd Duke of Bedford who discovered Cosimi's talent during his stay in Rome , in 1698 . The violinist dedicated 12 sonatas for violin and bass to the nobleman, which are very reminiscent of the maestro's op.5Arcangelo Corelli. During his stay in London , Cosimi was able to write other compositions, as well as being engaged in concerts, lessons and instrument construction, which earned him fame and money. Of his last years of his life there is no relevant news, most likely he died in Rome in 1717 . User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
