Nick Thal So Far Nick Thal was born on 13 December 1977 in Zurich, Switzerland as the son of a pilot and a paintress. Soon after his family decided to move to Retz in Lower Austria in 1994, he started his musical career when co-founding “The Sun”. After two years of loud rock in the aftermath of the early nineties’ grunge vogue and the production of their album “Demons and Daydreams” the band split up for reasons of different ambitions. One year later, in 1997, he presented his first solo album named “Angels Are Forever”. Produced by Georg Hrauda and Helmut Bergmann the record listed nine tracks, all written by Nick Thal and performed by a new band that included Nick’s cousin Andy on drums and Harry Hauser on bass and keys. The romantic atmosphere of the album found was crowned by the road movie ballad “Ordinary Guy” and it wouldn’t take long until minor Austrian dance label “Balloon Records” signed Nick Thal for a single in 1998. Refined by Jack Fronczek and the beautiful backing vocals sung by Monika Ballwein “Ordinary Guy” went on air on several radio stations in Austria, Slovenia and even Italy, can still be found on various rock samplers and even played part in MTV’s Clone High USA TVShow aired in the US and Canada.
