They met in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1986. Santiago García Maynar (Santi Rex), was the vocalist of the group John Landis Fans. Antonio Gimenez (Antonio Estación) was playing bass in a band called Boda de Rubias, in which Nacho Serrano was also playing keys. Antonio and Enrique Bunbury, who were good friends, decided to form together a side project to Boda de Rubias and Heroes del Silencio, called 3 Años de Pena. In this group also played Boch and J.M. One day, Antonio and Enrique had the idea of forming a group with Santi. In 1987, the bands Boda de Rubias and John Landis Fans dissolve, and Niños del Brasil is born. The name of the group came from the movie Los Niños del Brasil. The line up was Santi Rex, voice; Nacho Serrano, keys and synthesizers; Antonio Estación, bass and Enrique Bunbury, guitar and backing vocals; they had a drum machine instead of actual drums. In 1988 Pedro Andreu (drums Héroes del Silencio) joines them for live concerts. Half a year later, both he and Enrique leave the group. On their first records, Del Amor y Del Odio, guitarrist Nacho Saldaña and drummer Manchu, both from La Cruzada join the band. In 1989, Manchu leaves the group. In December 1991, Nacho Saldaña leaves the group. His place is filled by Quique Mavilla. In November 1992, Quique Mavilla also leaves the group for a solo project. In 1996, the new ex-drummer Jacobo Dobbie is replaced by Carlos Ramón. In 1997, Nacho and Santi tear apart from the music, being busy with taking care of their bars
