New Teeth are a rock and roll dance band. Their formation began in the squalor and beer-stained hallways of a university residence in the Canadian capital of Ottawa. When guitarist Lucas MacKenzie met drummer Will Staunton, they quickly became collaborators. In 2008 the duo enlisted the help of violinist Aria Leroux to play acoustically at an open mic at the Avant Garde Bar. Soon the band grew to include bassist Matthew Gilmour, flushing out the developing yet eclectic sound. After a highly successful headlining gig at the Avant Garde, as well as two well attended shows at Zaphod’s, New Teeth were ready for the transition from live stage to recording booth. This transition would see shifts in membership and sound, as violinist Aria Leroux and the band parted ways in late 2008. Now settling into a three piece dynamic, the band hunkered down at Gallery Studios with Arturo Brisindi in February 2009 to record their debut self-titled EP. Since then they have played shows at Maverick, Café Dekuf, Umi Café and again at Zaphod’s. They have shared stages with the likes of Immaculate Machine, the Josh Reichmann Oracle Band, The Reason, Rich Aucoin and the D’Urbervilles, as well as hometown heroes such as Amos the Transparent, Bear Claps, Paramedics and The Property Line. Since That time they have been disbanded for reasons unknown User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
