New Jersey Transient was the side project from The Avett Brothers' bassist Bob Crawford. The band was an experimentation in sound and style not usually associated with the Avetts; from melodic-pop instrumentals to jazz ballads and rock anthems, Crawford used the New Jersey Transient banner to explore improvisation and thematic song writing all the while maintaining the sensitivity and honesty that have endeared the Avett Brothers to so many. Contributing musicians included Joe Kwon (later of The Avett Brothers), Ingrid Stenzel, Leon Godwin, Bri Godwin, Seth Avett, Daniel Coolik and Mike Guzalak of One Leg Up. New Jersey Transient has been abandoned due to Crawford's work with The Avett Brothers and Overmountain Men.
