Often referred to simply as "NBC", this group of players in San Francisco created unique noise/music on the fly, with no rules whatsoever as to genre or instrumentation- the stranger the better. Often what resulted was noise camouflaged as various forms of electronic music. One underlying ethos of the group was that the common idea of a "band" is inadequate for making avant-garde compositions, an idea obviously carried over from several members originally involved with the Big City Orchestra collective. NBC's first official live noise gig was March 13, 1999 at the infamous Tehama Alley Clit Stop- the subsequent CD was named "Elevator Music" because the group performed in a freight elevator rising to the audience level for three sets between the other bands' performances. NBC went on to perform and organize many indoor and outdoor parties, radio shows, and noise festivals in the Bay Area, and continued to record jam sessions at their homes. NBC never garnered a large local following, though once distributed via MP3 on the internet, they reached audiences of thousands, with airplay on radio stations around the world and in
