Artist
Nasir "Nas" Jones and Christopher "DJ Premier" Martin are an American hip-hop rapper-producer duo. The collaboration began in the early 1990s when DJ Premier produced three tracks for Nas's highly acclaimed 1994 debut album, Illmatic. These tracks—"N.Y. State of Mind", "Memory Lane (Sittin' in da Park)", and "Represent"—are considered foundational masterpieces of the East Coast hip-hop sound. Their creative synergy continued on subsequent projects throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, with Premier contributing tracks to several of Nas's solo albums, including "I Gave You Power" on It Was Written and the popular single "Nas Is Like" on I Am…. Rumors of a full-length collaborative album circulated for nearly two decades, with both artists confirming in various interviews that a joint project was in the works as early as 2006. The duo's long-awaited, full-length collaborative studio album, Light-Years, was officially released on December 12, 2025, by Mass Appeal Records. The lead single, "Define My Name", was released on April 19, 2024, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Illmatic.
