Naked Lady Wrestlers

Originally from the East Bay, California town of Crockett, the Naked Lady Wrestlers formed around '80 (?) and always exhibited a Flipper-esque sense of humor and sardonic wit when it came to their lyrics, demeanor, and general attitude. The music? Let's just say its punk that doesn't suck, and you can skate to it. Famous in some circles for the song "Dan With The Mellow Hair" on the '82 double-LP compilation "Not So Quiet On The Western Front," the Naked Lady Wrestlers were championed by such Bay Area punk royalty as Jello Biafra, Tim Yohannon (R.I.P.), and Jeff Bale, all three of which worked for the world-famous, long-running (still around) punk rag/college radio show Maximum Rock N Roll, and NLW demo tracks received regular airplay. Bale's group Lennonburger (whose line-up also featured noted rock critic/ascerbic punk stalwart Metal Mike Saunders) also appeared on that compilation, alongside more than 40 other great Northern California/Nevada punk bands. Though they never put out an official record, a one-song 7" flexi of the rippin' skate anthem "Accidents" was released as a promo for MRR in '82, and the NLW demo track "William Tell Overture" (a punk reworking of a song that, uh, pre-dates rock n' roll in general) appeared on the California punk (ancient demo tracks only) LP "Killed By Death #13."
