Naifaru Dhohokko (late) was one of the legendary singers/musicians ever existed in Maldives. He was born in and belongs to the island Lh. Naifaru, and is the son of Aminath ( lonuvelimaage ) and Moosa Hassan. Although his real name is Abdulla Moosa, he is famous as ‘Naifaru Dhohokko’ among Maldivians. The name ‘Dhohokkobey’ explains the friendly relationship that most of the Maldivians have built with Naifaru Dhohokko. According to Naifaru Dhohokko, his music career began when he was very young. He is famous for composing his own music and writing his own lyrics. He was the most famous singer/musician in Maldives when the Radio Maldives was first formed. He enhanced his popularity among Maldivians by performing live in ‘request’ radio programme. He participated in the programme for consecutive four years. He won the government award for outstanding musician, which was annually given my Maldivian government. A singing competition on his name, was started by Maldivian Association for Performing Arts (MAPA) which was named ‘Naifaru Dhohokko Award’. He also won the Best Singer Award of 20th Century which was given by the Maldivian Weekly Magazine ‘Adduvas’ in 2000.
