Nachum "Nakhche" Heiman (היימן נחום or Nachum Heyman or Nachum Hayman; May 6, 1934 – August 17, 2016) was an Israeli songwriter and composer. Many of the hundreds of songs he wrote have become classics and part of the history of Israeli folk music. Nachum Heiman was born in Riga. When he was five years old, his grandfather, Menachem Mendel Heiman, the captain of an icebreaker in the North Sea, smuggled the family by ship from Riga to Gothenburg, Sweden. From there, they reached South Africa. He is the father of Israeli rock singer C Heiman. Heiman died in hospital on August 17, 2016 in Kfar Saba, Israel. He was 82. Heiman won the 2008–2009 Israel Prize in the field of Hebrew song. He founded the "Hebrew song Heritage association" and served as its artistic director until his retirement in 2011. --------- Natan Yonatn, Nachum Heiman's friend and writing partner says about his friend (in the opening of Heiman's song collection): "The name Nahche sings in the ears of thousands of Israeli singing fans. The Israeli folk song (Zemer Ivri) is the soul of our life in this country. It is the mirror of time, spirit and history of our life as human beings and the life of the nation. Nachum Heiman has won the right to become one of the priests of Hebrew music." It is not for nothing that Natan Yonatan calls Nachum Heiman a priest. His name- Heiman- is from the Torah, and Heiman elaborates: "In The Book of Chronicles I, chapter V, it says that the families of Heiman, Asaf and Yedoton
