Artist
Nástio Mosquito (b. 1981 in Angola, lives and works in Luanda) uses music, photography, film and performance poetry as the means by which his persona, at once charismatic and transgressive, pronounces on the nature of our globalised world. His videos, dwelling particularly on contemporary art and society, could not be smarter or funnier, more knowingly politically incorrect with respect to post-colonialist clichés. In an interview he said: "Music serves a different kind of audience or a broader. I don’t know about easier or not but I know that it fulfils its role. There are some things that are better expressed in a song and there are things that are better expressed in a photograph. It’s just about being effective. (...) What are your objectives? I don’t know what you’re doing. If I can interact and provide a perspective through a song, if I CAN do it, I’m going to do it".
