My Own Pine Box was formed from the embers of Agna Moraine’s Autobiography in 1999, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Members James McInerney, Adam Kuthe, Ryan Wilson, Karl Ericson, and Benjamin Padget spent time and effort playing within the Mid 90s Michigan scene, growing, learning, and loving as musicians and artists promoting DIY music, art, and writing. This redoubtable endeavor leaned into the beautiful moments delivered through music. Influenced by Lungfish, Moss Icon, Current, Vine, Universal Order of Armageddon, the Sea and Cake, Shudder To Think, and everyone in the 1990’s Michigan hardcore scene. Cheap Trick was in there as well, even if it was on the AM/FM clock radio wake up alarm that blared over airwaves dreams. There was truly a belief in the future expressed through music. My Own Pine Box music was the outcome of lives made possible through artistic expression of a love and respect for our natural world. These songs contain mountains, they have peaks and valleys, plateaus with rolling fields of growth. Succor and indemnity. The place where no modern man can hide no more. A criticism for the critical. At a time in the DIY music scene when bands were exploding with fires for exploration, My Own Pine Box dipped into the well of inspiration from what had already become and pushed that into a drive for finding ourselves in friendships where true expression could be released through the absolute feeling of playing music together that was fun and important all at once.
