Vengence. Obsession. Jealousy. Secrecy. Addiction. Fame. Hatred. These are the key elements of the New Jersey phenomenon known as My Only Hope. The band joined forces in late 2003 in an attempt to address subject matter that no one else would dare touch, single handedly shattering the stereo-typical "my girlfriend left me, now let me cry about it" plague that has swallowed the youth of today. My Only Hope's messages are about taking pain and turning it into art; making the negative positive; seeing the silver lining of every cloud, despite the measures you must take to get there. My Only Hope explore the more demented, darker side of love and lust in their debut EP This Means War. Produced by Sal Villanueva (Taking Back Sunday, Thursday) and recorded at the legendary Big Blue Meenie studios in Jersey City, My Only Hope take notes from their NJ predecessors, but blur the lines between screamo and metal into an aggressive blend of post-hardcore all their own. This Means War kicks off with frontman Russell Kelley drunk on whiskey and hell bent on his own destruction while reading a long lost love's journals. The debut progresses into a youthful homage to cult celebrity (I wanna die like Elvis / I wanna live like I'm James Dean / I wanna love like Jackie-O / I wanna fuck like I'm Norma Jean).
