My Dark Aunt are a multi-instrumental band that explore where poetry and music meet. Formed by Norwich based poet Andrew McDonnell & London based film maker Michaela Nettell in 2004, they have evolved into a five piece with Abby Dagleish on violin, Nettell on cello, Kel Robb on accordian and Lorna Shipley on flute, glockenspiel, second vocals and McDonnell on voice and odd guitar. The music is sometimes reminiscent of Dirty Three or Tindersticks, but is entirely their own sound. A mix of dark humour, sea shanties and haunting melodies, the Dark Aunts have been described as "...taking you on a waves swell but still bringing you safely home".
