Under the name MULVEY, Canadian composer and multi-instrumentalist Isaac Alstad creates expansive, nature-infused ambient music that invites listeners into a space of stillness and inward reflection. Based in Langley, British Columbia, MULVEY’s work sits firmly within the organic ambient genre—where subtle instrumental textures meet atmospheric space, and where the quiet pulse of nature breathes through every phrase. A lifelong musician raised in a musical home, Isaac’s creative foundation was shaped by years of playing piano, guitar, and drums, as well as more than 15 years of experience performing church music. These influences continue to inform his compositional sensibility, imbuing his ambient work with a spiritual warmth and harmonic depth that resonates deeply with his audience. MULVEY’s music is rooted in an intuitive, exploratory process. Working primarily in Logic Pro X, Isaac approaches each track as a sonic experiment—layering field recordings, evolving pads, and acoustic textures to build immersive soundscapes. His ambient compositions draw inspiration from artists like John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Ludovico Einaudi, and Ólafur Arnalds, yet always reflect his own distinct voice: a fusion of classical sensitivity, cinematic scope, and meditative restraint.
