Mouse on Mars are a German electronic duo, formed in 1993 and consisting of Andi Toma, from Dusseldorf, and Jan St. Werner, from Cologne. Their music is characterized by a playful approach and atmosphere, emphasizing grooves and basslines with processed analog and digital textures from noises to ambience, frequently being labeled as IDM, glitch music and indietronica. They were originally signed to the first wave post-rock label Too Pure. Music journalists in the 1990s variously called their music "maxi-minimalism" (The Wire), "LFO / krautrock toytown toonz" (NME), and the assertion that "one man's thingy is another man's wotsit" (Melody Maker). Since 1997, Mouse on Mars have run and released music on their own record label Sonig. They collaborated with Stereolab on Dots and Loops, and St. Werner formed the collaborative duo Microstoria with Oval's Markus Popp. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
