Artist
Mother's Basement is a project started by Richard Colado, Jeremiah Johnson, and Benjamin Cooper -- three musicians from Jacksonville, Florida. The goal was to write songs and compositions under very specific guidelines to see how different artists would interpret the same agenda, and to see what we're personally capable of when forced to use a specific and often difficult process. The results of each assignment will be posted on http://www.mothersbasement.net/ once they're completed. Assignment One: Emperor: Each person must use Beethoven's "Piano Concierto no. 5 (Emperor)" as the source for an original piece. You can use a chord progression, a bassline, some part of the accompaniment...it's up to you, but the original idea has to come from that concierto. Assignment Two: Body Song: Each person must use their body as the sole source for their piece. The voice is allowed, for the sake of melody, and you can use editing or samplers for arrangement. But no actual instruments. Assignment Three: Guitar Piece: Each person must write a piece for three acoustic guitars. No vocals allowed; and no effects (distortion, delay, etc.). The goal is to remove production from the process (as much as we can) and keep the focus on composition.
