Mother Sun is Jonathan Cordle and Christopher Haynes, along with various friends at various times. The duo met in Pittsburgh and very quickly started making music together, first as music school students receiving formal training, then around the local clubs and gallery circuit. In bands of varying sizes for a few years, Cordle and Haynes produced artsy post-rock, dense art-pop, and neo-classical indie-psychedelia, working with a few other musicians from the Pittsburgh scene. Losing about a member a year on average, but continually evolving a complex sound, eventually Cordle and Haynes were working with a violist and no one else. And Mother Sun was reborn, emerging from this polarization as a collective partnership. The early inklings of melancholia-cum-bliss became a signature aspect of the music Cordle and Haynes created together, but in new, more subtle contexts. Stripped of all previous instrumentation, Mother Sun became an elision of digital multi-text
