Mortar and Pestle was an indie rock band from Greensboro, North Carolina, United States from 2002 to 2006. The band was formed by guitarist and singer Josh Kimbrough (formerly of Westfaila and Straight No Chaser and currently of Butterflies) and bassist Joe Norkus (formerly of Westfalia and Straight No Chaser currently of Embarrassing Fruits) along with pianist Katie Zickefoose and drummer Peter Lewis, whom they met while attending college at University of North Carolina-Greensboro. The band released their first full length with Trekky Records and were an active part of the Trekky Records Collective. They soon broke up, but remain one of Greensboro's most beloved bands and their album, "Oak in the Acorn", one of Trekky's finest releases. There is another band called Mortar and Pestle, aka, MxP who are a grindcore/goregrind/noise band who often end up making songs that are heavily influenced by rape rock. They're a bunch of teenage boys who record in garages, basements and wine cellars to get the most out of their poor-acoustic natured environments.
