Smack-dab between two high-profile reunion performances with his teenage punk/hardcore band Negative Approach (one at this summer’s sold-out Touch and Go anniversary shows in Chicago, the next at the upcoming All Tomorrow’s Parties), drummer/songwriter/singer/guitarist/artist Chris Moore helps redefine what it means to be “punk” with his latest record release, “Us Fools.” Though the fifth record to bear his name, “Us Fools” is the first Moore has recorded alongside his band Sons. Together, Moore and Sons show a shared commitment not only to the band as a living, breathing entity, but also to mining their own individual eclecticism. Joining Moore's guitar, piano and lead vocals are the Sons: Gary Langol on double bass, organ, piano; Adam D Gold on drums, vibes, percussion; Dennis Cronin (performed with Yo La Tengo, Lambchop, Calexico, Vic Chestnut…) on trumpet, accordion, melodica, percussion; and Tom Gavin on various guitars. Us Fools is orchestral yet brawny folk-rock, fusing blues, jazz, pop, and Afro-Cuban themes. It’s beautiful and lyrical. Each song on Us Fools is mystically linked by Moore’s poetic observations on spirituality, society, love, death, and the shrinking natural world. Chris Moore has acquired songwriting prizes from Metro Times/ Detroit Monthly, an Abe Olman scholarship, and a 2005 Musicians Atlas/Borders finalist placing and has opened for Tori Amos, Mark Eitzel, Alanis Morrisette, and others. Moore has also performed and collaborated with Golden P
