Moonflower was (is) 1.) a pop/rock band from the Utrecht area in The Netherlands, that existed from 1993 to 1999. During their six year career span, they released two albums, being "The Real Thing" (1994, Columbia) and "Shelter" (1996, Epic). Musically, Moonflower leans heavily towards semi-acoustic adult contemporary and indie rock and female US rock singers of the mid and late 1990s. Therefore, the band's music can best be compared to that of Sheryl Crow, 4 Non Blondes, Alanis Morissette, Heather Nova, Michelle Branch, The Sundays and the otherwise relatively unknown Norwegian girl band The Tuesdays. The songs of Moonflower may also appeal to listeners of Dutch artists like Anouk, Krezip, Lois Lane, Meg and Judith. The Dutch band Moonflower (not to be confused with the Bristol funk band The Moonflowers) consisted of singer Angeline Bonette, keyboard player Geert Veneklaas, drummer Jean Monsou, guitarist Jan Kanis and bass player Pebbles Willekes. Monsou, who prevously played in the well-known Dutch bands Time Bandits and Secret Sounds, had already been in another band with Bonette and Veneklaas, called Jeanny's Wild Obsession. Their only releases were two UK singles in 1993, "Love & I" and "You Can Tell The World", both issued on the Polydor label. Since the venture with Polydor did not work out (as of today, the album remains shelved), the band returned to Holland and changed their name to Moonflower as a result. They were signed by Sony's Columbia label soon after. I
