Emerging from the steamy Brisbane summertime haze is MKO; a fresh injection of comic colour and street-chic sound. Ms MKO (Hannah Macklin) spits pink bubblegum vocals, popping fast, rap-inspired spurts, then stretching and soaring to less-travelled heights of songbirdery. Her band blast driving and often obscure neo-soul and hip-hop beats, and grungy synth-pop basslines and hooks, channelled through electro gadgets and spliced with samples. Taking inspiration from field leaders such as Erykah Badu, The Dirty Projectors, Santigold and James Blake, MKO ooze urban attitude with an abstract arty aesthetic. With debut EP "Awaken The Herd" enjoying prime Triple J airplay, and earning MKO Feature Artist spots on Triple J Unearthed and FBi Radio Sydney, MKO are now gearing up to release their second EP "Lily Lotus Orchid Sunflower" in early 2013. "It's like Cornelius covering The Dirty Projectors on a red cordial bender." - Dom Alessio, Triple J (Home & Hosed) "Awaken The Herd [is] an explosive mash up of pop, dance-centric R&B and neo-soul that sounds simply alive." - Time Off Magazine User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
