Mitsuki Laycock (born September 27, 1990), also known as Mitski Miyawaki, and professionally as Mitski, is an American singer-songwriter. She self-released her first two albums, "Lush" (2012) and "Retired from Sad, New Career in Business" (2013), while studying composition at Purchase College’s Conservatory of Music. Her third studio album, "Bury Me at Makeout Creek", was released in 2014 through Double Double Whammy. She signed with Dead Oceans in 2015 and released "Puberty 2" (2016), "Be the Cowboy" (2018), and "Laurel Hell" (2022), with the latter reaching the top ten in several countries. In 2023, she released her seventh studio album, "The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We", whose single "My Love Mine All Mine" became her first song to enter the Billboard Hot 100. Her eighth studio album, "Nothing's About to Happen to Me", was released on February 27, 2026. Laycock was born in Mie Prefecture, Japan, to an American father and a Japanese mother, and grew up in multiple countries including Turkey, China, Malaysia, the Czech Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo due to her father’s work with the United States Department of State before settling in the United States. She has a sister and grew up speaking Japanese as her first language. During her teenage years, she briefly worked with a talent manager in Japan and later wrote her first song at age 18 while living in Ankara, Turkey.
