mildrage was a Japanese metalcore/post-hardcore band from Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, formed in March 2016. The original lineup consisted of vocalists MEG and t.e.p.p.e.i, guitarist Jun, bassist Kaz and drummer Kengo. The band’s sound incorporated a dual vocal approach, contrasting MEG’s clean vocals with t.e.p.p.e.i’s aggressive screams, and their lyrical themes centered on expressions of inner anger, sadness, suffering, and disappointment. Before forming mildrage, the members except MEG had played together in high school, performing covers of metal bands like Bullet For My Valentine and Children of Bodom. However, their style did not resonate well with the audience at school, prompting the group to take a break. During this time, they became acquainted with MEG, who was singing in an all-female band covering SiM tracks. When her band dissolved, they invited her to join as a second vocalist, marking the official formation of mildrage. The band name was chosen by t.e.p.p.e.i, who explained that it combined the words “mild” and “rage” to reflect the contrast between outward composure and inner fury, symbolizing the duality of emotions that are often suppressed. mildrage debuted with the single “Armeria”, which quickly gained traction, accumulating over a million listens and helping to establish the band’s popularity.
