«BLAU» («BLUE») is the name of the quartet and also the first CD of pianist and composer Mik Keusen. BLAU ignites a singular, unleashing and utterly sensitive universe of sound. Fragile, sweeping forms and structures lead to a spacious, hovering sound produced exclusively by acoustic instruments, and based on compositions by Mik Keusen. The seemingly orchestral compositions reflect influences from 20th Century Classical Music, Jazz, and contemporary music. Minimal Music is paired with modern beats. Recurring sound loops open up space for improvisation and psychoacoustic sound compositions. Repetition, purposefully placed harmonic schemes and idiosyncratically placed forms are the backbone of the compositions inspired by minimalism. The compositions are not highlighting soloistic performances, but rather the development of a homogenous, lyrically interwoven organism which is fed by all musicians in equal measure.
