Midori Seiler

Midori Seiler, daughter of a Japanese pianist mother and a Bavarian pianist father, grew up in Salzburg, Austria. Her musical training took her from Salzburg to Basel, London and Berlin. Her teachers were Helmut Zehetmair, Sandor Végh, Adelina Oprean, David Takeno, Eberhard Feltz and Stephan Mai. Since 2000, Midori is concertmistress of the orchestras Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Anima Eterna and was invited as guest concertmaster at various groups, such as Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. As soloist in Europe, South America, Asia and the USA, she performed violin concerti by Bach, Telemann, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Mozart and Beethoven. Her recordings, among them several winning awards, include the violinconcerti by Mozart, her own reconstruction (after BWV 1052) of a lost violin concerto by Bach and ‘Sheherezade‘ by Rimskij-Korsakoff. With pianist and specialist for historical keyboard instruments Jos van Immerseel she produced the violin sonatas by Mozart and Schubert. Their complete recording of sonatas by Beethoven will be released in 2011. Much public attention was given to a DVD which was produced by Harmonia Mundi france, featuring Akademie für Alte Musik, choreographer Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola and Midori Seiler as soloist in Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons‘ in a scenic performance.
