Artist
Mick Morris (b. Michael Anthony Morris) is an English guitarist/multi-instrumentalist. After brief flirtations with the violin and piano, he took up the guitar at the age of twelve and soon began to perform in public, like many of his contemporaries gaining his initial experience playing in skiffle groups and dance bands before going on to play jazz and rock. In the early 60's he was lead guitarist with the original Dover-based Rolling Stones and a decade later was a founder member of cult progressive rock outfit Mirkwood. As an accompanist or band member, he has worked with artists as diverse as Roy Castle and Eric Clapton and as a sideman with luminaries from the jazz world including Tony Coe, Pat Halcox and Joe Harriot. Although a jazz stylist by natural inclination, his playing has always reflected a passion for the instrument and the composition rather than for any particular style of music. He enjoys playing 'Irish' tenor banjo and bluegrass music and also plays bouzouki, mandolin and concert ukulele. He currently plays regularly with veteran Kent-based jazz cornettist Bill Barnacle as well as with his own trio and also continues to work as a session player, accompanist and teacher. Since 2010 Mick has also appeared regularly with fellow guitarist Colin Hinds (China Crisis, Paul Carrack etc.) in the duo, HANDS ON!
