Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Michy Mano moved to Norway in his early twenties. He worked as a DJ in some of Oslo's hippest clubs while starting to explore his own musical roots in the traditional gnawa music of Morocco. He soon became a very important figure in Oslo's musical circles, known for his unique style, his vocals, and his ability to unite the worlds of Norwegian jazz and the native music of immigrants living in Oslo. With the help of his friends from Madagascar, India, Morocco, and Norway—including hip producer Bugge Wesseltoft—Michy has created an exciting hybrid of dancefloor electronica and the traditional folk music of Morocco.
