Smooth jazz fans looking for fun in the sun have known for years that Destin, Florida on the Panhandle is the place to be each April, when the Seabreeze Jazz Festival draws thousands from around the U.S. to experience the genre’s top performers over a spectacular weekend. Since the release in March of Destin resident Michael J Thomas’ spirited and eclectic CD City Beat, the town’s got an exciting and similarly bright new musical calling card. With widespread critical acclaim and high impact airplay and sales stats, the versatile saxophonist’s debut CD is fast becoming one of the genre’s hottest independent releases of 2010. On its day of release, the widespread anticipation for City Beat led to its peak position of #4 on the Amazon smooth jazz chart.
