Mfiliseni Zamokwakhe Magubane was born at Ngudwini (Eshowe), north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal on the first of January 1965. Eshowe still remains close to his heart to this day and has been a subject of a number of his songs. Mqabuleshesha (as he is affectionately known to his adoring fans) has a career that spans over thirty years in the music industry. His entry to the recording world is documented in 1986. Mfiliseni is considered to be one of the pioneers of the Maskandi rhythm and an activist of the South African traditional music. Mfiliseni has composed and produced music for award winning musicals like Sarafina, Township Fever, Magic at 4A.M and Maria Maria. He has also toured and performed in Europe as part of the cast of these musicals. In the film industry, he has composed the song “Vuma Dlozi Lami” for Anant Singh’s movie adaptation of “Sarafina”, in addition, he composed “Isiwiliwili Samabhunu” for Leleti Khumalo in Magic at 4 a.m. a song that featured on Mbongeni Ngema’s CD, “Laduma”. He has also performed and shared the stage with numerous international artists. Mfiliseni performed at the Children of Africa Festival in Nigeria with the likes of Kool & The Gang, Michael Jackson, Rita Marley, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Mahlathini & Mahotela Queens to name a few. He was later invited by Danny Simms (legendary Bob Marley producer & Michael Jackson’s then concert promoter) to record at Marley’s studio in Kingston, Jamaica with Rita Marley and several other internat
