So, where the last Messiah J & The Expert album, the Choice Music Prize-nominated Now This I Have To Hear dealt with personal relationships, writer’s block and tennis, From The Word Go questions the state of the world we live in today. Not that Messiah J & The Expert consider themselves authorities on politics or the environment or any other issues like these, MJEX would be the first to hold their hands up and admit they don’t have the answers but that doesn’t stop them from asking questions or wondering about the madness that happens around us every day. The songs on From The Word Go are about every day things, good and bad, all set against the backdrop of a pretty confused world and it’s people. What about the music? Effectively, it’s a greatest hits album made of entirely new material. As always, Messiah J & The Expert were soaking up a library worth of music while making From The Word Go and that’s evident in the way MJEX take a ride from one genre to the next in twelve infectious steps.
