Melton S. Mustafa (Miami, Florida November 23, 1947 - 28 December 2017) was an American jazz trumpeter, arranger, composer, producer, and educator. He has performed with some of the top names in jazz including the Count Basie Orchestra, Duke Ellington Orchestra, Woody Herman Orchestra, Bobby Watson, Jaco Pastorius, George Cables, John Hicks, Charlie Mingus Dynasty, and Gunter Shuller, among many others. Melton Mustafa started playing trumpet in the 8th grade and began writing and performing music professionally while still in high school. Melton attended Mississippi Valley State University 1965-67, Florida A&M University 1967-1969, Berklee School of Music 1966 and University of Miami in 2000. As an entrepreneur, Mustafa Mustafa was affiliated with ZAKI Publishing, Inc., The Melton Mustafa Orchestra, Inc., and MSM Arts, Inc. a non-profit Arts Organization. Mustafa has played in many of the international Jazz Festival which include the Playboy Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Ravina Jazz Festival, SS Norway Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Lugano Jazz Festival (Italy), Pori Jazz Festival, Charlie Mingus Epitaph Orchestra in Russia and many others. As a traveling artist, Mustafa managed to conduct his duties as an educator, Mustafa was Director of Jazz Studies at Florida Memorial University where he teached Music Theory, Jazz Composition and other jazz related courses. He also produced his Annual Melton Mustafa Jazz Festival at Florida Memorial University. S
